“Deep tissue” is an umbrella term that people use to mean many different things. My definition of “deep tissue” is massage that is highly effective and leaves you coming off the table saying, “Wow. Things feel really different.” Profound work and deep pressure are not the same thing — and I’m much more interested in providing my clients the former rather than the latter. I always strive to use effective pressure — sometimes this is light pressure, sometimes firmer pressure, sometimes somewhere in between. Deep is a location in the body — not an amount of pressure needed to get there. I want to work with your body, not against it, and I adjust my pressure and techniques accordingly. I often find with clients that the most profound work can occur with gentle, respectful pressure that honors your bodily integrity and is soothing to your nervous system.
I integrate a variety of advanced massage techniques into each session. I have many years of experience and techniques under my belt that are appropriate for connecting with the body’s tissues beyond the superficial layers. I do not have separate services based on “deep tissue” versus other types of massage. My time is my time, and I bring the full breadth and depth of what I have to offer into every session for every client.

Tipping is optional and highly appreciated. As the business owner, I do my best to balance the sustainability of my practice with accessibility of my services.
If tipping feels appropriate to you, great. If paying the standard rate is what works for you, great. I do not want tipping to be a source of stress when you come in for your appointment.

Yes, I joyfully work with prenatal clients. Please book a Prenatal Massage when booking your service here. Write the number of weeks pregnant you will be at the time of your appointment in the “Comments” field when booking.
Prenatal massage is generally appropriate for uncomplicated pregnancies. Please consult with your care provider prior to scheduling, particularly if you have underlying health conditions or have had a challenging pregnancy.
A supported side-lying position is generally best after the first trimester, but this depends on client comfort. We will work together to find your most comfortable positioning.
If you have questions, you are welcome to contact me before booking.

I consider it a privilege to participate in someone’s first experience with massage therapy. When you come in, it’s your session. We will discuss your goals and concerns before we start our work.
Whether you are on my table or someone else’s table in the future, you always have the right to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. Respecting your bodily autonomy is foundational to creating a safe healing space for your body. It is inherent to how I approach each session with every client. If there are areas of the body you don’t want worked, or clothing you want to keep on (even if you don’t want to disrobe at all), that is totally fine. We will work together to create a session that works for you.
-
For new clients, we will start by reviewing your intake form and discussing your treatment goals. For established clients, we will do a brief intake to clarify our goals for that day’s session. For both, this may include postural and/or movement assessment. We will discuss the treatment plan for the day and what body areas we are planning to work with.
During the session, you will be on the massage table. Depending on your goals, the treatment may be more passive or involve more active movement by you. You will usually turn over on the table at least once. Depending on our goals for the session and the type of work you are seeking, we may or may not cover the full body during any given session.
Whether you are on my table or someone else’s, I encourage you to speak up if something is uncomfortable or doesn’t feel right. I am dedicated to honoring your bodily integrity and appreciate your communication with me about your needs.

Aside from completing the necessary intake forms (and consulting your healthcare provider, if needed), there is nothing you must do to prepare for a session. But here are some tips to help you get the most out of our time together:
Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment start time so you have time to park and relax on your way in. A primary goal of massage is to calm the nervous system, moving from the “fight or flight” response to the “rest and restore” state of being. This is easier to do this if you aren’t in a rush.
Prepare your body so you will be comfortable having it worked on. This might mean showering after the gym, scrubbing your feet if you are a barefoot walker, or just be coming as you are (no, you do not need to shave your legs for this. This is a judgement-free zone).
Take a few deep breaths. Feel into your body. Use your inner eye to gaze kindly at yourself. Gently ask yourself “What needs our attention today?”
Give yourself post-session recovery time. When possible, give your schedule some breathing room on the tail end, too. If you can, don’t schedule yourself to be anywhere until at least 30 minutes after the scheduled end of your session. This gives your body and nervous system time to integrate the work we have done.

If you are looking for full-body relaxation massage work, there is nothing that you need to bring with. When it is time to get on the table, I will leave the room. You will have privacy to get undressed to your level of comfort and get on the table under the sheet.
If you are looking for therapeutic work to address a specific acute or chronic condition, wearing or bringing some loose-fitting athletic shorts and a sports bra or tank top (if appropriate) can be helpful. This type of clothing allows good access to the tissues while also saving time on draping. It also means you can get up mid-session to move and feel what is happening in your body.
Bring a water bottle for after your session — massage can get things moving and it is a good idea to hydrate.
If you have diabetes or another health condition that affects your blood sugar levels, please bring your usual remedies for low or high blood sugar.
If you have questions about what is appropriate for your needs, please contact me.
